YBD nothing happens in isolation. Events in Israel and Occupied Palestine have repercussions across the Muslim world; rightly or wrongly.

Just as the actions of the United States have repercussions. Take for example as a European Australian travelling in Indonesia (the country with the largest Muslim population in the world) I may be targeted because of the colour of my skin - being associated with Europeans, America (and America’s actions in Iraq, Afghanistan and of supporting Israel), Christianity or Australia.

Yes people act for different reasons, but one of those reasons may have to do with the double-standards that occurs as a result of the occupation of the Palestinian people in collusion by the West (primarily the US).

I see this is a repeat of the argument used during the Second World War against having the US and its Allies do or say anything against the German's carrying out its Holocaust because "people might believe Goebbel's claim that the Allies are 'fighting a Jewish war for the Jews'", as if the German conquest of Europe was not, in itself, a reason for the war.

So now you are claiming that America's problems in the Middle East are Israel's fault. As if the mutual slaughter of Sunnis and Shi'ites in Iraq and Pakistan are Israel's fault. As if Iran's imperialist nuclear ambitions are caused by Israel. As if the bloody civil wars in Lebanon and Algeria in recent years are Israel's fault. As if 9/11 was Israel's fault. As if radical political Islam is Israel's fault. As if Taliban's presence in Afghanistan is Israel's fault. As if the radical forces in the Middle East care about the settlements, one way or another.

"<i>a growing perception among Arab leaders that the U.S. was incapable of standing up to Israel, that CENTCOM’s mostly Arab constituency was losing faith in American promises, that Israeli intransigence on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was jeopardizing U.S. standing in the region…</i>"

Of course, this is nothing new. The United States lost any and all credibility it may have had on the subject of Israel once the realities of Oslo became clear, and it never really regained it, Obama's much-overrated Cairo speech notwithstanding.

If we could get across the notion that Israel's elevation of the settlements and continued occupation over all else is, in fact, a danger to US interests (which is most palpably is), we might finally be on the right track.

As an American-Israeli who is just weary from weeping over the destruction of my Jewish home at its own hands, I would urge anyone who believes the US needs to push back against Israeli intransigence to call the White House and State Department, your Senators and US Representative <i>and tell them so</i>. (Make that double if they're on their respective Foreign Affairs Committees, and double-double if you're Jewish and don't mind telling them so).
